That is the title for someone who died as almost a Saint but not quite worthy enough to be granted the Saint title. I am not sure that is an improvement. I mean, can you imagine spending your whole life working toward that goal and them being like 'naaaah'?

I'm pretty sure most "Saints" aren't saints in their lifetime, so in a sense they were all working towards that goal and missed it before they died.
