Blitz of new people

Postby Gerhard » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:07 pm

Just on August 11, eight new members...

Bad news... I believe most of them are spam bots.

Is there anyway we can block these guys?

I know. But all I can do is delete accounts and ban IPs. It doesn't seem to help at all. I have ideas, but they need Lanji's help.

I understand, I'm just angry at these stupid bots... do they really think stuff like this will get us to buy their shit?

My idea is that it is more to annoy us, than to get us to go to their site. Or, it is a distraction from what the bots are really meant to do. Just don't click on their links whatever you do. One way to stop the bots is to add a confirmation e-mail and a wavy alphanumeric pass box. Where you have to type in the wittle letters & numbers that you see.

Good luck.

These bots can also spell lack of poplularity of this macross site for some viewers who happen to come by this site to check us out. I call these people agents. I used to be one before I joined. What I'm saying though is that bots like 'pornn' can really make this site look bad and make people not want to join. I guess we should act fast. I'll ask around on my end and see what else we can do to hender these kinds of things from happenening or at least slow down the bots.
Don't hunt for death, for it finds us all soon enough.

What? Are you saying rpg'ers aren't honry little freaks anyway?.......Um, just kidding, don't hurt me.

Seriously though, coming from someone who just joined I can say I really haven't seen anything (but it's been almost two months since this was posted so maybe whatever was done worked), and I think if I did I honestly wouldn't be all that affected by it. This site eliminating spam and porn bots would be kind of against the grain of every other site I've seen, so while the fact that it's basically non-existant as far as I know is a great plus, the existance of it wouldn't be all that much of an detractor, atleast in my oppinion.

Yeah... I can only police them so fast.

We've got some plans on how to corral them, but it's taking more time than expected.

Maybe I should pay some visit to this page aswell.
Found another bot at the Unicorn's main topic. I sent Araruin a message as I didn't know who I should turn to.

Well... guess Xuric wuld be the wisest choice. He is afterall part of the Web Manager Group :/
