Alexander Prescott admired the view from the captain's nest. The Ticonderoga was his first commanded, and to him at least, it was the most beautiful ship in the fleet. The planet filling the viewport was a sight to behold as well. Beta Caeli was one of the first colonies settled by humanity outside of the solar system, and in the last hundred years, they had done an amazing job of becoming a pivotal planet in the Alliance. Their embassy was one of the largest in Alliance space and also the reason why the Ticonderoga was here.
"Lt. Anders, what is the status of the Elysian ambassadors," Captain Prescott queried.
"Still en route from the surface, sir," the young lieutenant replied. "Their shuttle should be docking in approximately five minutes.
"Very good," Prescott responded. "Let me know when they are on board. What about the Spartan batch? Have they settle in?"
"Yes sir," Anders replied. "Major O'Hara assigned them quarters in the marine section. He moved another squad so he could keep them separated from the other grunts and the battle dolls. Just in case."
"Understood. Let's hope they don't give us any unpleasant surprises."

Rebecca Green closed the personnel file she had been perusing and tossed it on her desk. The Ticonderoga only held two fighter squadrons, and half of those were being forced on her as a full squad. It didn't help matters that most of them had more combat experience than she did. How was she supposed to integrate them into her crew? Pilots were difficult enough when they were fresh, but bringing in an experienced, tight-knit group would make them nearly impossible. Sometimes she missed just being able to fly.

Charlotte sat in the hall reading the UESC combat manual for what had to have been the hundredth time, at least. She enjoyed the comfort that it brought her to know her place in the universe and where all of the other pieces fit. It told her who to protect, who to kill, how to live. Life was so much simpler when she didn't have to figure those things out on her own.
Charlotte looked up at the sound of approaching boot steps. Major O'Hara was leading a line of soldiers through the hall. She didn't recognize any of them, but she immediately noticed their similar appearance. They were close enough that they could be called identical. Clones from the same batch never served on the same ship. It was too confusing, or so she had been told. What was even stranger was when the Major led them past the battle dolls barrack. All of the clones were housed in a single barrack. What made this batch so special?
Mysteries made her head hurt. Charlotte quickly dismissed the enigma and turned back to the combat manual. |
