White Flora Satellite City, Uraga Class Carrier Rainbow Warrior III, Briefing Room 007
07:15
All of the members of the squadron, sans 2nd Lt. Tatsuhiko, were assembled in the room. 1st Lt. Quinn was there, however she looked paler then usual. In addition to the Archers, there is an assortment of 9 pilots from three other squadrons on the carrier. 4 of them wear the unique stealthy pilot suit for the VF-17 and one of them is in a UNSM uniform. At the head of the room is the CAG, two other senior members of the UNS brass on the ship and a man dressed in a UN Intelligence officer’s uniform. The quartet all had serious expressions on their faces.
The CAG cleared his throat indicating that the briefing had started. “Good morning,” he said gravely. “Thank you for following my instructions on drinking last night. One of you didn’t,” he said, indirectly implying Tatshiko.
The CAG turned to give a look to one of the two senior UNS officers behind him. That officer nodded approvingly. “What follows is top secret. It’s not allowed to leave this room,” he says sternly, looking at the nods of understanding from the assembled pilots.
“About the ship that defolded near yesterdays paintball training exercise… there’s no easy way to explain this. Listen.” With that he pressed a series of buttons on the podium at the front of the room.
An audio track began playing on the rooms’ speakers: "Citizens of all U.N. Collective planets, now is the time to stand up and fight the U.N. Oppressor Dogs and make them flee with their tails between their legs... Today's attack on the 15th Colony Fleet was meant to show you that we can win if we put our minds to it... LET THE DESTRUCTION OF THE 15TH COLONY FLEET BE OUR RALLY CRY!” The track finished.
The CAG, with a stern expression, paused long enough for the pilots to develop worried and concerned expressions on their faces. “The attack on the M15 Fleet probably occurred due to the area being mineral rich and some wayward, non-aligned force conceived that the M15 fleet was a threat to any claims they have in the area. How they got the nukes they used is anyone’s guess… as the material used in creating them is still controlled by the UNG…
Within about a week and a half of the attack on the M15, the 4th Galaxy Patrol fleet disappeared. A week later, contact was lost with the 7th Galaxy Patrol Fleet. Both of those fleets are no where near where the 15th Colony Fleet was last reported to be. In addition, both of those fleets are in opposite sectors in the UNG territories… numerous other UNS ships have turned rogue and disappeared, and there is a rumored rogue fleet somewhere in the 7th sector.
Until yesterday, there had been no contact from the M15 fleet. UN Intelligence is still interviewing the Captain of the Archer and going through their files and records. Details are still pending. However, the 19th Macross Battle Group, which was ‘in the area,’ relatively speaking, of the M15 fleet, has also disappeared.
The role of the 13th Galaxy Patrol is currently undergoing a revision. Pilots, expect some big changes,” the CAG concludes. He sets down his datapad, picks up his morning coffee, and takes a drink from it. All the while, letting the collected pilots absorb and come to grips with what he just said.
He picks up his datapad once more and presses a button on it. “The new TO for the squad has just been transmitted to your datapads.” The CAG pauses a moment to give the pilots a chance to review the information. “2nd Lt. Cassel,” the CAG waits for him to stand up. “You are hereby to be referred to as 1st Lt. Cassel.” The CAG pauses long enough for the squad to give any congratulations to the new 1st Lt..
“Currently, your unit is short one pilot. For the upcoming mission, the XO of the VMFA-237 Fireflies, 1st Lieutenant Dan O’neil, has volunteered to assist and fill out your squadron roster.” The CAG indicates the pilot dressed in the UNSM uniform, who curtly nods back to the CAG. “He has valuable ground experience that I hope that you will all utilize.
In addition, 4 pilots from the SFVA-33 Black Wraiths, led by Major Black and 4 from the SFQ-3213 Wraiths, led by Captain Jackson, will be joining the Archers on this mission.” The two mentioned COs nod slightly when their names are called.
The lights then dimmed and a display of a 4 planet star system, centered on a ‘largish’ yellow-white sun appeared on the center, larger display at the head of the room. At the top of the display, ‘Momoyama Star System’ was written. The view slowly panned in to focus on the 3rd planet in the system, named ‘Momoyama-3.’ The planet looked like a cross between Jupiter and a giant peach. Orbiting just within the edge of the atmosphere of the ‘peach’ was a golf tee shaped object in a pseudo-geo-synchronous orbit.
The CAG pointed at the golf tee and said, “Core. Mining platform for the Galactic Kronër Company. Yesterday morning, the facility was attacked by a flight of non-UNS Variable Fighters.” The left sub-display activates and a grainy black and white image appeared on it. During the attack, the GcC Orion VII was slightly damaged as it was leaving orbit to make its fold to here. They broke into the Mining Platform’s hangar and stole a fold-capable passenger shuttle. The company has reported no folds after the GcC Orion VII folded out of the Momoyama System. The pirates most likely traveled to Seed – the only life-sustaining planetoid in the Momoyama system. It’s the largest moon orbiting Momoyama-3.
Your mission is to form up on the GcC Orion VII and fold to the Momoyama 3. As we do not know the capabilities of the pirates, you are all to employ utmost caution and stealth during your activities in-system. Therefore, upon defold you are to use the freighters orbital insertion burns to cover your fighters maneuvering flares, as you move to this point.” The CAG points to a cluster of asteroids in a slow orbit around Momoyama 3. “And wait there for 30 minutes while the Orion VII makes some ‘spectacular’ thruster burns to move towards Momoyama 3. After the time has elapsed, you are to proceed to Seed and enter the atmosphere.”
The image of Momoyama-3’s mini-system moves to the right display as the center one zooms in on the planetoid Seed. “Seed has the same orbital characteristics as Earth’s moon. One side is always facing Momoyama-3. However, it has a 26 hour orbit, giving it an almost Earth like ‘day.’ However, the daytime has the dark side of Momoyama-3 and nighttime could best be described as a orange-pink dusk, due to the illumination from the light side of Momoyama-3.
The center of the side facing Momoyama-3 is where the largest settlement, Momodani, is. It has a few satellite settlements. There is a possibility that the ‘colonists’ of Seed are working with the enemy VFs. Therefore when entering and exiting the atmosphere, do so away from those establishments.
When you first arrive, the two pairs of VF-17’s will break off to do an extended preliminary search of Momoyama 3 and it’s other moons. The rest of you are to establish a base camp away from the settlements on Seed. During these initial phases of the operation, the Wraiths will be performing recon around the basecamp site and providing aerial cover for the base camp construction team.
Thereafter, the Wraiths will proceed to do stealthy detailed scans of Seed. The Black Wraiths will continue doing extended and detailed scans of the Momoyama-3 mini-system. The Archers are to always have one flight of the squad on guard duty at the base camp. It is up to the CO on who to send out to investigate the settlements for the non-UNS VF pilot’s activities in the settlements. Of course, do not make a grand entrance in your Excaliburs when you do this. 1st Lt. Cassel, use the Special Ops flight how you see fit, however it is suggested that they establish a sub-camp away from the base camp. This is so that you have a backup force or point of retreat if the base camp is attacked.
One of the 17’s will carry a space fold booster if you need an emergency backup. Another will carry a hyperspace communication satellite and deposit that in orbit. A wing mounted cargo pallet on the CO’s fighter will contain a ground relay station that needs to be set up ASAP at the base camp. Using that, backup can arrive in orbit within 10 minutes. Backup planetside – 20 to 25 minutes.
You will all be issued camping gear, carried in the rear seat in your VF-19F’s cockpit…” The CAG’s voice trailed off as the doctor entered, wheeling in 2nd Lt. Tatsuhiko, still drunk out of his mind and currently seated in a wheel chair.

“Apologies for the lateness, Captain Daniel. He took longer then expected to rouse, be put in a uniform and ordered to sit peacefully in a wheelchair.” A quick glance at the chair showed that Tatsuhiko’s legs and arms were currently firmly strapped to the chair.
“Far out,” he gurgled as he saw the funky multicoloured displays. After that, the intensely tired, drowsy feeling returned to Tatsuhiko. As he struggled to keep his eyes open, he had to keep them squinted, as the bright lights stabbed his eyes like daggers. The normal decibel level of the people speaking in the room, combined with the hum of machinery and the raspy machinations of the climate control system all sounded like fingers on a chalkboard to his ears. In addition, the remnants of the alcohol, the effects of the aspirins and the counter-effects of the medicine that the doctor injected into him has resulted in a splitting headache that chronic migraine sufferers would describe as ‘strong.’ For those looking at Tatsuhiko, veins in his forehead stood out and occasionally pulsed. In addition, his whole head looked swollen/
“He’s still drunk out of his mind,” said the doctor matter-of-factly. “Damn fool is bloody lucky,” the doctor looks at Tatsuhiko with disgust and pity. “He drank half a bottle of vodka and swallowed an indeterminite number of aspirins… it’s as if he wanted to kill himself.” The doctor shakes his head, accompanied by some comments of disgust from the assembled (non-Archer) pilots.
“His flight status has been revoked and I am against putting him in a cockpit and undergoing a spacefold… he’s going to puke his guts out sir,” the doctor said to the CAG. “You sure you want him to go on the mission, Captain?”
The CAG nodded. “He disobeyed my request. The ordeal will be punishment enough.”
The doctor nodded in understanding and let go off the wheel chair. He dusted his hands off, visually indicating that his hands were wiped clean of responsibility over Tatsuhiko.
The CAG turned to 1st Lt. Cassel. “Lieutenant, he’s your responsibility now. Put him into someone’s back seat… in the Archers,” the CAG stressed. “Whoever he is assigned to will also not have camping gear. Meaning that your squad will be short two person’s gear.”
The pilots of the other squadron’s let out some signs of disgust and audible signs to show their pity that the Archers have someone as irresponsible as Tatsuhiko assigned to their unit.
“Any questions?”

CHyarri heard and grinded her teeth though-out the recorded. Her knuckles turned white and she was starting to become visably agitated. Once the recording ended she slowly sliped back into her normal expression.
Chyarri looked over the new TO , her eyes flared with anger. Her her will Barely held the data pad in her hand from flying at the CAG. She Had no clue, what she had did so wrong to be passed over for a promotion, and also Demoted at the same time. None the less Placed under and Non vetaren pilot. She started to wonder about Transfer but she had already been denied. She took a deep breathe and decided on her action. Once the call for Questions was giveing, she acted.
Chyarri Stood and Noded to 1st LT. Cassels and walked over to him. She slowly wiped her hand over her chest looking as if she was removing the dirt or sweat. She took his hand and shook it once "Congrates on the Promotion Sir" Her hand slips something Cold and metal into his palm as she shook his hand. She turned and Saluted the CAG. and exited the Briefing room.
Chyarri made her way down toward her room she removed her archers patch off her uniform and placed it in a waste recycling bin. Once in her room she started to pack her belonging.

The shock at the confirmation of the 15th fleet's destruction sent shockwaves through Zed. His heart heardened, his face became impassive. The recording galvanized him, setting his mind to seeing through whatever assignments were handed to him. He'd be a 'Lifer' now, that was the only way he could make up for abandoning his family.
The briefing continued, each tally of destruction and death adding to Zed's resolve to see such tyranny stopped. Then the CAG through a curve ball. His words on a new TO did not necessarily surprise him. Zed new that in such a position as the Archers now found themselves, they would need someone even more experienced than Dom. The name that came up on the display didn't make any sense.
At the CAG’s words, Zed stands at attention, awaiting whatever speech or explanation the CAG would give. "You are hereby to be referred to as 1st Lt. Cassel." Zed blinked a moment and then said, "Thank you sir." He wanted to glance at the others in the squad, but couldn’t while under the CAG’s direct address. Zed was surprised at Chyarri’s direct and immediate action, though not wholly. As he returned her hand shake, her wings digging into his palm, his expression was firm and grim.
The CAG seemed to ignore Chyarri’s actions and just continued with his briefing. "Currently, your unit…roster." The pilot indicated definitely looked like he knew his stuff, and Zed appraised him but a moment before returning his attention to the CAG’s words. The plan of action for the operation at Seed seemed straightforward enough, though very dangerous for his inexperienced squad mates. He wondered if they would have a repeat of the simulation from a few days ago.
Upon the entrance of the Doctor precipitated by Kolin in a wheelchair, remorse, embarrassment, and anger flashed through Zed. So this is what he meant by ignoring the drinking order. Kolin, we’re going to have a ‘talk’ later. The Doctor’s comment about Kolin wanting to kill himself sent a few thoughts bouncing around Zed’s head. I suppose this is as much a test on unity as any. I’ll have to organize things as soon as we are dismissed.
"Any questions?"
Zed stood up again. "Sir, if I may, I request a small cache of M-21 rifles, fit for say a small foray into the settlement on Seed. Also, what are our rules of engagement when it comes to the colonists themselves? And what is our timetable for this operation?"
OOC: Edited to exclude after briefing intentions.

Two GPFs and the 19th? That's insane. Are they rogue or destroyed like the 15th? Horatio thought, a hard look on his face, We'll nail that terrorist scum good for the 15th
Horatio claps briefly for Cassel. He feels a little bad for Chyarri. She was a bit tough sometimes Okay, all the time but he thought she was a fairly good leader.
Ground experience? Why would we need that... Horatio's no fan of stealth missions, especially after embarassing himself in that sim. Even more annoying is the fact that he might have to bring a drunk pilot along and not have any camping gear.
"Sir, how many pirates attacked the mining platform? Secondly, how long will we be able to stay, based on supplies?" |

OCC: Everyone hold your horses. NO-ONE has been dismissed and the briefing is still continuing.
As for Lt. 132's actions: if they occur during the midst of the briefing, then they will have seriously negative rammifications for her military career outside of the Archers. |

Malin choked slightly on the emphasis on Kolin he had heard about it what pilot hadn't the late night emergency was enough to rattle Malin from his bed. But what had set him in stone was the recording he knew the 15th had to have been fragged but he never knew that such extremists would also nail three other fleets. His hand trembled slightly but his face was kept in stone like some bronze profile of arrogant roman scuptures. Malin already knew it didn't take much to make a bomb all that was needed was the materials. He shuddered slightly his fist however was the most notable thing as it rattled slightly on the arm of the chair.
Malin forced the conversation with Casselius into his mind and closed his eyes for a long moment. He reached deep into himself for a determination he hadn't felt ever since his first academy mission. The desire to achieve to desire to be successful but most of all the desire to protect. Malin opened his eyes again what had seemed like an eternity to Malin was only a few seconds as the CAGs briefing droned on. Malin jolted in his seat when he heard that Cassel was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and made the Commanding Officer he didn't know Cassel enough to trust him it made him edgy. He said nothing as he numbly glanced at the TO again and it clicked in his mind he knew Chyarri would be pissed as hell.
Malin took down notes during the CAGs briefing his fingers flying over the keys of his PDA as he rapidly took short-hand notes a trick he picked up during demolitions training. Malin finally broke his little work trance when he heard that one of the pilots had to take Kolin in the passenger seat. Malin hoped it wasn't him espically since he was in special operations and possibly having to lead the team knowing Chyarri might leave after a rookie was jumped over her.
"Any questions?"
Malin jolted straight up and let Cassel and Horatio speak first before speaking up himself.
"Sir, since we are to assume the worst possible situations I request to know if I am cleared for demolitions equipment for the mission in supplement to the current equipment since we are operating on the ground. I had demolitions training as well as demolitions disposal training back at the academy."
Malin himself chose to become a demolitions expert to go with his mediocore piloting skills well he didn't know what others felt but that was what he felt. He had an ok skill at demolitions at demolitions not the best but Malin felt confident enough.
"Considering investigation with the town wouldn't it be a good idea to take civilian clothes to better blend in the town?
Malin paused again before he spoke again.
"And finally is it possible to store extra camping gear on a wing-mounted cargo pallet on my fighter so we won't be so short-handed equipment wise? I ask since I would probably need a cargo pallet if I am cleared for demolitions gear to store the extra equipment but I am sure with careful packing there would be spare room to hold more camping gear. I am willing to accept responsibility for any equipment loss if that is what it takes. I am well aware it might raise my chances of detection but the squad as a whole comes before my personal priorities. If this request is denied then I would wish to solve Cassel's problem of having to pick one of us by volunteering to put Kolin in my copilot seat."
Malin decided that if he wanted to suceede then he needed to show some inititive. Now was the time to show he was willing to put the squad first. Cassileus had helped him with perhaps a critical conversation now was the chance to partially pay that back.
EDIT: Tweaked post.
EDIT: Time correction.

“You are hereby to be referred to as 1st Lt. Cassel.”
Reno's eyes turn wide at that. "No kidding huh?" Raising his voice "Hey, nice catchy promotion you got there. Mind if I use it?" followed by a chuckled guffaw.
Reno swallowed hard when the briefing continued. In truth, the idea that the Macross 15 was seeked out and destroyed, or rather, missing doesn't sit too well with him. As the briefing continues, and the details of the mission at hand is being slowly digested, Reno thinks of what he is going to do during the long fold transit, or even when he got there. Even the thought, and the real possibility, of having to camp on the surface didn't appeal much to Reno, not this time.
The others made some really good remarks and questions, although the appearance of Tatsuhiko in his drunken stupor didn't bring much relief to the others, especially the one who's gonna ferry him.
Raising his arm, "Sir, we know how we are going there, we know where and who and when we are going there for, but what are we doing there? Do we blow the pirates out of the sky the moment they appear, or do we wait for them to appear and have a shot at us at base camp?" |

With all the new faces in the room, Jouten couldn;t help but slowly look them over with his violet eyes. Hmm and what have we here? Four nightmare pilots and a missing face? The Archer's patch on the pale female's uniform gave her away to being a member of the Archers. The others however, were obviously not of the unit. After idly comparing the female's skin tone with that of his own, Jouten went over one last curious musing before turning hims thoughts back to the brass, nodding his head politely at the CAG when he gave his good morning.
Listening as the briefing began, Jouten remained indifferent to it all until the audio message began playing. As a zentraedi, he could certainly feel for whoever created the message, but as a UN Spacy pilot, it brought about a certain sadness that only one caught between worlds could feel. My heart bleeds for you.. Jouten thought somberly to the voice of the message.
Missing fleets..rogue fleets...and you ask how they got their hands on nukes? That was an obvious conclusion to the situation, but not the only one. You'd think he'd know of something called the black market. Higher ups are always selling off technology and weapons at 'discount prices!' Act now and receive a free genocide and galactic conquest button with purchase! Jouten thought in a very cynical manner while waiting for the CAG to continue.
While absorbing the mission details and reviewing the new TO on his datapad, Jouten's attention pivoted to that of the Doctor wheeling in Lt. Tatsuhiko. I see...so that is what he meant by someone not following the instructions to drinking.. Although more interesting than the Lieutenant's drunken state was the Doctor mentioning he may have been trying to kill himself. Hmm.. The morbid pilots thoughts slowly thought over his own past misfortunes.
Shrugging the thoughts off, the zentraedi pilot watched curiously as Lt. 123 got out of her chair, approached Zed then left. After thinking about the new TO and what likely just transpired, his heart sank. Even though he did not know Lt. 123 at all, he was empathetic to her situation. With everything that had happened since the meeting started, Jouten couldn't help but shake his head at the squad. It certainly was an odd soap opera to say the least... |

In the briefing room, Eric noticed some new faces, as well as some not too new faces in Shannon Quinn. One member was missing however, but then, the absentee was know for his erratic behavior.
The whole thing stated up with a audio tape concerning the events of the day before. Ahhh terrorists... "Plus ca change, plus c'est pareil". He thaught in his native french. He listened closely to what the CAG said about the 15th fleet, as it was still a major event that such a fleet dissapears.
The focus than changed to the new flight assignements, with the notable promotion of Zed to CO. Some took this news better than others, 123 being one of the most angry reactions yet. Indeed, life was always exciting in the Archers. Ahh come on guys! We are a team here. So we have a rookie CO, just shows de lack of leadership of our veterans I suppose... You jus' need to up your game a bit. Were his private thaugts at the jealousy displayed. He simply clapped at Zed's promotion, leaving a congratulatory speeche for another time.
When Tatsuhiko came in, reeled in a wheel chair, Eric could not hold back a small laugh. De guy can't take his liquor, hilarious! However, when the CAG said he was going to tag along and take out someone's equipment, The smile was rubbed off. A hard mission just got a bit harder...

Henry heard the recording in the briefing room with utter disbelief at first. As the CAG continued, the details of other fleets missing or destroyed made the nightmare real for Lt. Chinaski.
This is war...
A war where the first shots fired killed hundreds of thousands of people. Henry knew for the first time how his father must have felt at the end of Space War One- and if the figures for ship loss were correct, it was also the largest single battle loss since the Varutuan War.
Where Henry was sure the overwhelming sense of loss was suppossed to be was a slow, small burning sensation.
He wanted vengance. Not to kill, although he now knew he could kill without hesitation, but to cause suffering. To walk a ways with the sowers of this death and show them the error of their ways...
Let the enemy live just enough to know their punishment...
This surprises Henry, but not too much. He is for a moment filled with a feeling of accomplishment with his role in yesterday's sortie.
Zed and I saved a man's life..
He also is relieved to be left on Zed's wing. He was begining to see himself as a kind of body guard, and felt comfortable in the role.
Henry looks at Chyarri as he remembers the paintball part of the sortie, where she had trusted him tactically, and he had proven her trust correct. He trusted her judgement, but found her unpredictable.
Oh, please don't do anything rash you pretty, crazy lady... they'll have you shuttling cargo in a VF-1C penal squadron on Pluto before they'll discharge you...

Domainic sat in the front of the room unable to move. He'd just been told that the 15th fleet, the fleet his Fiance was aboard had been destroyed. He exhaled deeply as if part of his soul had just left his body. As he stared at the image tears began to fill his eyes. He leaned back in the chair and wondered what life would be like without her. The smell of her hair, the touch of her skin, her enchanting blue eyes, her smile, her laugh, might all be gone and somehow he felt cheated. His sacrifices had been great and this had been all he'd asked for in return. A little happiness. A companion to spend the rest of his life with.
Through the tears his analytical mind raced ahead in an attempt to see the future. He would survive, he knew that. Strip away everything else and he was the consummate survivor. The pain of this loss would diminish but not entirely heal. There would be no other women, at least not for a long time and when and if he ever found one, she would never measure up to Julie. She was his one true love, and he might have lost her. With tears streaming down his tired face he began to wonder if any of this was worth it anymore.
His sad tear filled eyes continued to stare at the CAG. Even through the pain he was feeling he still took in every word, every painful word. The CAG had reordered the TO. The change didn't hit him, there was no pain in the change, he only felt one pain right now. His sorrow filled eyes met with Zeds and Dom nodded in approval. His eyes slowly found their way back to the CAG and took in the remainder of the breifing. He said nothing, only the tears and sad expression on his face could communicate.
"Any questions?"
There was only one question running through Dom's mind and he would save it from the ears of the others. No, he did not need their sympathy. He waited patiently trying to fight back tears hopelessly.

Shannon sat back in her chair with her data pad in her hand. She felt like crap and she was usre she looked like it too but at least she was here with her squad in the briefing instead of locked in her room or worse...
Not wanting to cause waves or anything Shannon sat quietly during the entire briefing. She absorbed with dismay all the CAG had to offer on the identity of the crashed ship, the recording and the ap[parent destruction of the M-15 fleet. Once the cag had finished She looked all around at her squadmates taking in thier expressions. What she saw ran the gamit from pain suffering and suprise to the only pilot who had really drunk, drooling in the corner.
Shannon really took notice of the new command structure of the Archers and the new mission. "Something must have really happened while I was out of commission for there to be a new co already....." Finnally after all the information had been passed down and dissemenated, the Cag opened the floor to questions. This was the point where you would find out the whiners from the winners Shannon thought to herself as she sat back and waited to hear any questions her fellow pilot might have. |

Flashback
3 weeks before…
Julie Ann Brewer stood on the promenade in the center of the M15 City section. As was her habit when she walked through the area, she had paused and looked up, to take in the wonderful array of stars visible beyond the lid that sometimes closed over the city. She made a silent wish that she and Domainic (Cassilieus) could meet within the next few weeks and not have to part again. She knew the requirements and obligations of military life. But fantasy is fantasy – she needed a break from reality.
She noticed a cluster of small stars moving rapidly in a dance past one of the furthest Bolognese Frigates in her field of vision. Suddenly, that Bolognese Frigate bubbled with sparkles over and around it’s hull.
Within seconds, the air-raid siren began sounding in the various city sections. On the M15 section, the large shield began a slow decent to protectively cover the city. One of the moving stars that she was watching jetted out and past the others. It moved directly towards the City-15. It appeared to break as two smaller stars fell off of it and those two stars accelerated towards the City-15 section at an amazing speed.
The massive clam shell lid over the City-15 section was almost closed. However, Julie was witness to two massive flashes in space. They instantly singed her retina’s, (temporarily) blinding her. The ship began to shudder and quake beneath her feet and she was knocked to the deck of the promenade.
Fade to black.
End of Flashback
The briefing continues
Any questions?
1st Lt. 132 abruptly stood up and left. The four senior officers at the front of the room were entirely flabbergasted by her behavior and lack of questions to understand why the TO was altered.
“Shit!” cursed the CAG, visible upset. He turned and stormed out of the room to cool off.
Unbeknownst to the squad, once out of the briefing room, he immediately made a call to the MPs. He then called the Captain and voiced his concerns that 1st Lt. 132 may be an anti-UN operative who couldn’t take the pressure when the suggestion came up that she *may* be fighting her ‘allies’ in the immediate future.
Two tall and beefy MPs met 132 at the entrance to her quarters. They escorted her to the ship’s brig, where she was promptly placed into solitary confinement. (Well… there are no other prisoners, so it’s effectively solitary confinement.) The Captain met her for a brief conversation later that evening.
After that, she remained in confinement for two days until a military tribunal could be arranged. During the trial, the prosecutor attempted to portray 1st Lt. 132 as an anti-UN mole. The defense successfully fought that portrayal off. However, she was found guilty of going AWOL during wartime. The penalty for that is death. She was executed 5 days later for dereliction of duty, breaking her oath and amidst a swirl of controversy that she was an anti-UN agent.
The various pilots in the Archers never saw her again after she walked out of the briefing.
While the CAG is out of the room:
[n]"Ummm, yeah. Can ya, scratch my head, cant seem to reach it."[/b]
The doctor reaches out and starts scratching. “Here?”
“No.”
“Here?”
“No.”
“Here?”
“Ah! That’s it!”
The CAG, finished the two calls and set the receiver down. He looked at the datapad that he had carried out of the briefing room. Promptly, he erased 1st Lt. 132’s name from the Archer’s TO. He was short one man on a mission that was already short one VF due to a squadmember be completely irresponsible and attempt to drink himself to oblivion.
The CAG opened a new page on the datapad. He wrote: inquire with Captain and UNG for assignment of counselor to the ship. Archers need it?
He twiddled with his writing stylus against his lip as he looked up and into the distance, not focusing on anything. That is until he spotted the movement of a pilot coming down the hall towards him.
Jean Morrison, the pilot that the CAG saw, was a little behind schedule. She had just boarded the ship yesterday while it was docked in Earth orbit. She had received a briefing where she learned her assignment: SVFA-4404 HORSEMEN, under Captain Mohammed "Prophet" Al-Hadid. After that, she was assigned quarters and had spent the remaining few hours unpacking and overhearing some gossip in the halls about a drunkard pilot making a scene in the officer’s club and later being put into surgery to have his foot reattached. She knew there were some nuggets of truth in the gossip – but how much of the gossip was true…
She dismissed those thoughts from her mind once more as she scrambled to find Briefing Room 009. Her squad had a briefing schedule to start there at 07:45 and she wanted to be early. Someone stepped into her path and blocked her way along the hallway. It is the CAG, whom she had briefly met yesterday just after first arriving on the ship. She bolted into a quick salute.
“Pilot! With me,” tersely stated the CAG. She had no choice but to follow his lead into Briefing Room 007. The CAG directed her to sit at an empty seat at the front of the room – a room full of pilots with a full range of emotions on their faces – from concern, worry, downright crying and ignorant drooling bliss. “Pilot, what’s your name?” quipped the CAG.
“2nd Lt. Jean Morrison, sir.”
“Welcome to the Archers. ARCHER,” the CAG barked, getting everyone’s attention back on him. The CAGs eyes momentarily wavered on Cassilieus, ’poor kid probably lost his fiancé… this isn’t right… but it’s war. We have a job to do. They signed up and read the fine print.’ He cleared his throat. “With 132 leaving, you have been assigned a new pilot.” He indicated Morrison. “Your CO will be revising the TO prior to departing on your mission.” The CAG looked at his watch. “The Orion VII is leaving in one hour and 25 minutes. Meaning that you all have less then sixty to do all of the pre-launch activities… Now then, where were we?”
One of the senior officers behind the CAG cleared his throat and said, “the questions, sir.”
“Yes, questions. Anyone?” The CAG looked expectantly at the Archers.
"Sir, if I may, I request a small cache of M-21 rifles, fit for say a small foray into the settlement on Seed. Also, what are our rules of engagement when it comes to the colonists themselves? And what is our timetable for this operation?"
“Good questions,” the CAG said, clearing his throat before answering. “The squad is being issued four M-21 assault rifles. The rest will be issued H&K MP-15 submachineguns. All firearms will be issued three clips of ammunition.
There are to be no military foray’s into the settlements, as the colony ‘Prime’ states that they are peaceful egalitarians. When any of you pilots enter a settlement, it’s under the guise of being stellar traders or roustabouts on leave from Core.
The rules of engagement are as normal – fire only when fired upon. In this case, due to this being a non-UNG settlement and the current background situation of the UNG, you are to fight defensively and retreat where possible.
The timetable is 7 days or less. Contact this ship via hyperspace relay for return instructions. Next question.”
"Sir, how many pirates attacked the mining platform? Secondly, how long will we be able to stay, based on supplies?"
“As I mentioned earlier, Lieutenant,” the CAG said in a menacing tone, “a single flight of VFs attacked the mining platform. Your VFs will be stocked with the normal full load of rations. However, if you need to stay on-planet for longer then 2 weeks, you could always forage,” the CAG sarcastically adds. “Next!”
"Sir, since we are to assume the worst possible situations I request to know if I am cleared for demolitions equipment for the mission in supplement to the current equipment since we are operating on the ground. I had demolitions training as well as demolitions disposal training back at the academy."
“You’ll each be issued 2 claymore style anti-personnel mines for base defence. Other then that, you shouldn’t need demolitions, as that’s what the VFs are there for. However, you could always jury rig explosives out of the missiles on a VF…”
"Considering investigation with the town wouldn't it be a good idea to take civilian clothes to better blend in the town?”
“Yes. You all know what to pack?” he asks everyone, before returning his focus on Malin for the next question.
"And finally is it possible to store extra camping gear on a wing-mounted cargo pallet on my fighter so we won't be so short-handed equipment wise? I am willing to accept responsibility for any equipment loss if that is what it takes. I am well aware it might raise my chances of detection but the squad as a whole comes before my personal priorities. If this request is denied then I would wish to solve Cassel's problem of having to pick one of us by volunteering to put Kolin in my copilot seat."
“Request denied. We don’t have enough of those handy to issue another one to your squadron. 1st Lieutenant?” he turned and looked at Cassel to see what his answer would be to Alexander’s request.
"Sir, we know how we are going there, we know where and who and when we are going there for, but what are we doing there? Do we blow the pirates out of the sky the moment they appear, or do we wait for them to appear and have a shot at us at base camp?"
The CAG nods at Machinko. It was a challenging question and he took a long moment to mull over his response to it. He purses his lips before answering. “- Primary objective: locate the enemy VFs and the stolen shuttle. Record their activities as much as possible and find out who they are working with.
- Secondary objective: recover the shuttle without incurring more damage and capture at least one of the pilots or ground crew of the raiders for interrogation.
- Third objective: kick the shit out of them and show them that the UNG is still boss in these parts.”
The CAG sounds and looks like a tough cowboy.
1st Lieutenant Dan O’neil asked a question. “Can I bring the XS-06 HEAVY GUN POD?”
“No. There’s too much drag, the heat of reentry would cause the ammo to cook off, and you’re not authorized for a heavy assault that would require that kind of firepower.”
“Any more questions?” the CAG asks.

Reno puts down his arm. "Ah..." He softly exclaimed, "...since you put it this way, crystal!"
Reno lean back into his seat figuring what he could do on this mission that has nothing to do with the mission. "Fishing would be nice. Gotta find me some stream with fish in them.
“Any more questions?”
Just for the heck of it, or to ease the tension caused by the sudden departure of 132, Reno again raises his arm, "How's the fishing?"
Post Briefing
Reno makes preparation to go to the hangar to check on his aircraft.

Briefing
As Lt. Morrison walked into the briefing room Zed nearly swooned. Her beuatiful blonde hair and small body features instantly enamoured him to her, and he did his very best to avoid looking at her and making his immediate attraction known.
As the briefing continued Zed mentally and physically noted the answers that the CAG provided, a few new questions popping up, and a few ideas.
"Just a few more things, Sir. First I need Major Black and Captain Jackson to meet with me just a moment after we're dismissed, and the Archers need to stay a moment as well. Second, what is the feasability of retreating to the Core mining facility in a worst case scenario? Is there an investigation ongoing about possible internal operatives?"
Zed continued his notes and mulled over a few other things until the briefing was over, at which point he stood at attention as the CAG left and then addressed the pilots around him.
Post-Briefing
"Gentlemen I'll make this short, I know you have your own preperations to take care of. First I want you to know that if you get in a sticky spot we'll be there to back you up immediately. Who knows what the pirates have set up in the way of traps? Second, I'm going to have some of my team scout a safe house location within the settlement of Sead itself. Any of you go down, make your way there until we can retrieve. We'll have a couple of extra clips there and some food. That's all I have for you, gentlemen."
Zed looked at the two higher ranking officers and wondered what they thought, if they even accepted the confidence said put into his voice. Regardless, with the Nightmare pilots gone, he turned to his squad.
"Ok Archers, first I'd like to welcome Lt. Morrison. I imagine this sudden reassignment to the Archers is a shock, though rapid restructuring is rapidly becoming old hat to us here. On that note, I have a revised TO for everyone, and assignments on this mission."
Pushing a button on his datapad he sent over the new list and a limited briefing.
FLIGHT-1: Command Flight
Assigned coordination of group and backup support. Base construction first priority.
1a - CO: 1st Lt. Cassel, Zed
1a - Wingman: 2nd Lt. Chinaski, Henry
1b - Wing Leader: 1st Lt. Quinn, Shannon
1b- Wingman: 2nd Lt. Morrison, Jean
FLIGHT-2: Tactical Flight
Assigned Scouting and securing of immediate area. Trades places with first flight in terms of shifts.
2a - XO: 1st Lt. Cassilieus, Domainic
2a - Wingman: 2nd Lt. Tatsuhiko, Kolin
2b - Wing Leader: 2nd Lt. Douji, Jouten
2b - Wingman: 1st Lt. Gomez, Horatio
FLIGHT-3: Special Operations Flight
Assigned with securing a second site for a backup base and the eventual location of a settlement safe house.
3a - 3IC: 2nd Lt. Lecavalier, Eric
3a - Wingman: 2nd Lt. Machinko, Reno
3b - Wing Leader: 2nd Lt. Alexander, Malin
3b - Wingman: 1st Lieutenant Dan O’neal
"First major change is that I'm giving Eric three flight. You will be assigned the M-21s and charged with securing two seperate fall back positions. In the field I'll use your judgement as to which is the best position.
Malin, you will be his auxillary in securing sites. You mentioned demolitions. I want you to secure a perimeter of the secondary wilderness base with the squad's ration of claymore's. I don't want anyone overrunning our fall back position before we need it. As for you volunteering to take Kolin, it's noted but not feasable. Dom, you'll be carrying Kolin. The two of you can use Henry's and my sleeping gear when we're taking your place on patrol. If and when Kolin is ready to fly again, you can use my fighter while he uses yours. That, though, will be decided in the field. Any questions on assignments, gentlemen?"
Zed's expression was open and firm. He had slipped into leadership without realizing it, his only real concern that of accomplishing the mission and keeping his friends alive.
Friends. Have I really let them become that? |

OOC: Wow, apeman, you were not kidding when you said dire consequences...
Briefing
"Yes, I have one question." Eric said, a bit intimated by the CAG. "How high is keeping the shuttle intact in our list of priorities? I guess that what I want to know is, recognising shuttles aren't cheap, can we just blow it up if things turns really, REALLY sour."
Post-Briefing
He then attended Zed's meeting. What he thaught would be a small pre mission bonding turned out to be more surprising. Zed came up with a new TO, which put him as 3rd in command and in charge of the special op's group. He was flattered by this vote of confidence, but he did have this strange deja vu feeling. Hmm, I wonder if the CAG knows about this... My name was not there at the beginning of the breifing. He soaked in his objectives for the first day of field activity.
"I'll do my best Zed, count on me" Before leaving the meeting, he tried to grab Reno, Malin and Dan.
" Allright guys, just before before takin' off, do any of you guys have skills I should know of? I guess we'll have to use every bit and piece of terrain and knowledge to our advantage so I just want to know what we have to work with. 1st Lt (O'Neil), I realise you may not be happy with a 2nd lt as head of flight. I value your experience. De same goes for de rest of you guys, speak up if something looks weird. Finally, when you are done with your preparations, come see me to get your rifles. That's all I had to say. See you in de hangar."
He waited to see if anybody else had comments or questions and headed to his room.

Briefing
Malin fumed for a moment but there really wasn't anything he could do about the CAGs word was on the same calibre as divine decree. Since he wasn't saying anything he did notice Cassel's reaction to the newest Archer.
Post-Briefing
If there wasn't one shock there was another and that was Eric being moved to Special Ops flight over Malin who by standard regulations would have moved up to take command of flight three. Still the Archer's TO has been one of the most screwed up special cases Malin has ever seen in his short time with the UNS. He glanced at his datapad for a moment and finally spoke up in a rather careful tone to keep his annoyance in check.
"Lieutenant Cassel, sir, I have no disrespect to your ability to command and I do not doubt Lt. Lecavalier's ability either but if I may so carefully ask. Why on earth did you change up Flight 3 to that?"
Malin paused for a moment but not long enough for an answer to be given.
"You not only moved Eric's Wing to Flight 3 when I have no clue what skills Eric would have that would be useful on the ground aside from ECM training but thats more suited to a command flight basically Flight 1. Even then no disrespect intended but the only thing I know about Machinko is I can put my trust with him since I flew with him. But you also moved Jouten from the flight who I already value for his unique view of combat which would be valuable in a special operations flight. Even then we don't even know Lt. Morrison's skills what if she is more suited to Flight 3 on the ground? I am not meaning to butcher your choices but I don't even know if Eric has command experiance and to put it straight sir. This is not to say that Eric can't do this but I would like to here the reasoning to your change up of the TO."
Not to mention you moved Morrison to your Flight now doesn't that seem utterly convienent I saw your reaction.........
Malin seemed slightly unbalanced from all these TO changes but he seemed to get the feeling the Zed was looking out for his former training members more then making more sound choices.

OOC: I'll respond individually to questions posed until the next GM post.
BIC:
"Malin, I understand your concerns. Right now my biggest concern is that all of us come home alive. My next concern is that of our mission. Now that might not exactly be the most militaristic viewpoint, please understand that in the WE I mean you, your squadmates, and I. Eric has command experience in training, more specifically under me directly. He was second in command of our training unit. Now before you say anything about me playing favorites, hear me out. This will benefit everyone to listen to. Command has not given me the time to read all of your files and know your abilities. We haven't even been together enough to know who will handle in what way under pressure. What I do know is that Eric can handle a flight, and that YOU can back him up in making decisions. Reno I have paired with Eric because of a few similarities I've noticed, and a few abilities that will compliment each other. As for Jouten moving to two flight, I did that because Dom is going to need someone ready for battle. Him and Lt. Gomez are flying injured, and as you can see our esteemed collegue from the Hill has managed to incapacitate himself. Likewise Lt. Quinn is in limited health. Now, no offense Lt. Morrison, but I haven't seen you ever in my life and I know nothing about your abilities to fly. You are in one flight because Henry here is the best person I know at keeping people alive, and for backing me up in a tight situation." Zed paused to rankle Henry's hair but a moment. "My point is, Malin, that Lt. Lecavalier, Lt. Machinko, Lt. O’neal, and you, are the only one's I know of who are in top health and are ready to face combat situations isolated from the rest of us."
Zed paused again and his face slackened slightly. His hands dropped to his sides a moment, and then his right hand reached out towards Malin, his left gesturing to everyone else.
"We're all going to have to trust each other in this. We are at war. Many of us have already lost people we knew or cared about without even having the chance to warn them of the danger. At this point, here and know, this squadron is all that we have in this world. There is no other certainty as to what is out there. We can only rely on ourselves and each other."
If Malin reaches towards Zed, Zed will move his hand past Malin's and grasp his forearm, out of comraderie and trust. |

Briefing
"How's the fishing?"
The CAG looks incredulously at Machinko. He looks at the other two UNS Command Officers at the front of the room with him and shrugs.
One of the other officers steps forward and raises his voice. “All the information we have on the planet is in the datapad.”
At the first request, the CAG nods and looks at Major Black and Captain Jackson. They both nod in understanding. For the second request, the CAG holds up his right hand and holds his chin, adopting a thinking man’s pose, with his left arm across his chest, holding the right elbow.
The intelligence officer steps forward for the first time. “It is feasible. However, we advise against it. It is a gas mining facility and they don’t have the defensive capabilities that you would require in a worst case scenario. Also, the trip there would take longer then the time needed for backup to defold in-system. However, in the case that backup is unavailable or unreachable, due to malfunction or destruction of the equipment, it is recommended that you disappear into the flora of Seed. If possible, make your way to one of the settlements and arrange for transport to Core. Otherwise, once the mission time has elapsed, a military force will be sent to recover you – if there has been no communications indicating an all clear.
As for an ongoing investigation of internal operatives at Core… there are none. Everyone at Core is either working a 16-hour shift or resting for the next 16-hour shift. I believe it’s a two-week on, two-week off rotation. Any plotting or actions there is, would be occurring on Seed during the workers two-weeks off there.”
"How high is keeping the shuttle intact in our list of priorities? I guess that what I want to know is, recognising shuttles aren't cheap, can we just blow it up if things turns really, REALLY sour."
“Hmmm,” mulls over the CAG. “Try to disable it before destroying it. Aside from shipping cargo, the raiders may be using it as an escape ticket or for long-range communications. Removing those options from the raiders is high priority. After that, recovering the vehicle for the company is secondary.”
It’s a bit vague, but the intended meaning is clear – destroy the shuttle if it’s existence compromises the success of the other mission objectives.
post-briefing
Major Black and Captain Jackson nod in response to Cassel’s advisement to them.
The only one dressed in a VF-17’s flight suit, Major Black speaks. “Quid pour quo. If you’re teams get sacked, we’ll be there to back you up.”
Captain Jackson nods in agreement. They walk off to brief their teams and prepare for the mission.
1st Lt. O’neil clears his throat when Cassel finishes. “As the fall-back site will be surrounded by Claymores, be sure to remember the marking signs for them. Claymores are equipped for both remote detonation and tripwires. Tripwires are the one that you have to worry about. We are going to mark them the same way that the Viet-kong did. A twig with a ‘Y’ shape in a small clearing. The safe direction is the arm of the ‘Y’ that has a leaf on it. Going the other directions will mean that you really have to watch your step.” The Marine 1st Lt. smiles in a serious way that instills fear and respect for him.
”Allright guys, just before before takin' off, do any of you guys have skills I should know of? I guess we'll have to use every bit and piece of terrain and knowledge to our advantage so I just want to know what we have to work with. 1st Lt (O'Neil), I realise you may not be happy with a 2nd lt as head of flight. I value your experience. De same goes for de rest of you guys, speak up if something looks weird. Finally, when you are done with your preparations, come see me to get your rifles. That's all I had to say. See you in de hangar."
The large, beefy Marine, 1st Lt. O’neil shrugs in response to 2nd Lt. Lecavalier’s concerns about rank being an issue. “This is a Spacy op and I volunteered when Gunga (his CO) offered the job to us in the Fireflies. I just hope that my ground training will be of some use for this op.
Oh yeah, ground training. My VF aviator training was primarily about joint operations with ground forces in creating planetary beachheads and aerial support during ground invasions. Also, in Marine boot camp, I received extensive training in ground operations outside of a VF. The last time I saw action, both in and out of a VF, was on the LV-426 op. (See Death Angels history for details.) I’m able to do anything that needs to be done. Just don’t expect me to fill out your reports!” He smiles as he says that. “I’ve had reports coming up and out of my ass for the past month…” His eyes trail off to the ceiling as a sign of disgust to the requirements of the UNS Brass.
He stands back and watches in mute bemusement of the bickering occurring among the squad about the revised revised TO. 'Jeez, don't people realize that there is a lot more to do with Command then the pretty name and rank bar? Already Lecavalier has proven to me that he's more suited for the job then this Alexander punk, he thought to himself.

Jean Morrison walked briskly through the halls cursing herself the whole way. Damn it, I’m late. I’m late. How can I be late?
She rounded a corner and dodged a few people walking the corridor. Arriving the day before from Alaska base on earth, she hadn’t had time to get accustomed to the layout of this ship. She had a scheduled meeting with her Captain. A Mr. Al-Hadid. She was told the name of the squad was the SVFA-4404 Horsemen. Sounded good to her. She was excited to get started, but first she had to find the damned place.
Maybe she had taken too long to unpack, or possibly she had hung around too long listening to the gossip about the escapades of a drunken pilot everyone seemed to be chatting about. Whatever the reason, she was now late. And that was the worst first impression you could make in the Spacy.
Someone stepped in front of her and she practically skidded to a halt. She recognized him from the day before, a Captain Daniels she believed. He was a superior officer and she showed him the proper respect by snapping a salute.
What did he want? She had to be somewhere. There was no time for a talk with him.
“Pilot! With me,”
He began to lead her into a briefing room labeled 007. No, that’s not right I have to get to 009. What does he want with me?
“But sir I….” She began to protest, but stopped upon seeing the somber faces of the people in the room she had just entered. They looked completely beaten, emotionally and physically. There was even the drunken pilot she had heard so much about strapped to a chair.
She felt eyes on her, and noticed one man take a quick glance and then do everything in his power not to look again.
Jeanie wasn’t about to make a scene in front of so many people. So she obediently took a seat as asked.
“Pilot, what’s your name?”
She told him.
“Welcome to the Archers. ARCHER,”
What!? Can he do that? Can he just steal me from the hall and sign me up? She thought, quite shocked. It didn’t matter though, she had to follow his orders. He held rank over her.
Jean sat throughout the briefing. There was a whole lot to remember. Seemed she’d be going on a mission with these people unless the Captain was terribly mistaken.
The squad was going to be spending an extended period of time on a planet called “Seed” doing recon. This had certainly been an interesting morning so far.
Briefing
“Any more questions?”
Jeanie slowly raises her hand. “Uhh yes sir. I hate to be a bother sir. But are you sure I’m supposed to be here? I was told to report to the Horsemen and Captain Mohammed Al-Hadid.”
OOC- I’m assuming she is supposed to be there, just thought that she would ask given the confusion she was experiencing.
Post-briefing
"Ok Archers, first I'd like to welcome Lt. Morrison. I imagine this sudden reassignment to the Archers is a shock, though rapid restructuring is rapidly becoming old hat to us here. On that note, I have a revised TO for everyone, and assignments on this mission."
She gave a sincere, “Nice to meet you all.” Before Zed continued and gave the assignments.
She was assigned to flight 1, and the wingman to 1st Lieutenant Shannon Quinn. Looking around she only spied one other woman. That had to be her. Jean gave Quinn a quick nod.
One pilot didn’t seem to like where he had been put. He called out the fact that none of them knew how Jean could perform. She understood where he was coming from. Everyone’s life depended on the skill of every other person in the squad.
Now, no offense Lt. Morrison, but I haven't seen you ever in my life and I know nothing about your abilities to fly. You are in one flight because Henry here is the best person I know at keeping people alive, and for backing me up in a tight situation."
“No offense taken sir. Just put me where you think you’ll need me. But I am a capable pilot, you don’t need to worry.”

OOC: Umm, oops, posted earlier than zed. also, see my previous post for corrections.
BIC:
“All the information we have on the planet is in the datapad.”
"Geez, you could have sounded a little nicer you know. You are sending us to fight your battle." Reno muses.
Reno never had a chance to check his fighter, as he and the others was called into sudden conference right after the briefing.
Stasnding back from the rest of them, but not too far away to be out of the conversation, Reno watches silently as some debate of some sort is heating up. Something about the leadership or the TO of the squadron. Really, Reno couldn't care less for such things when the whole reason of joining UNSpacy is less than atruistic. But as an officer, he recognises the need for such things, and the importance they represent, so he perked up his ears. The initial discussion, or rather monotone did not interest him, what does is when he heard this. "...Even then no disrespect intended but the only thing I know about Machinko is I can put my trust with him since I flew with him..." "Well well well, Malin. So you trust me huh? About time somebody does." Reno wears a satisfied smirk on his face.
The discussion, or rather question and answer session progress smoothly with Zed explaining the order of battle, or really his reason for organising the squadron this way. Zed ended his words by saying what he expected a fellow officer and leader should say, ""We're all going to have to trust each other in this. We are at war. Many of us have already lost people we knew or cared about without even having the chance to warn them of the danger. At this point, here and know, this squadron is all that we have in this world. There is no other certainty as to what is out there. We can only rely on ourselves and each other."
Nodding his head once, "Yes, that, I agree whole-heartedly." Reno turned towards Malin and gave him a smile, "We are a family. Who else there is to trust but your family man?"

Briefing Room
The drama didn't stop when Lt. 123 left the room. It only escalated the situation. The CAG had become visibly disturbed by Chyarri's actions and left the room soon after her. To Jouten, it was all very comical. Marines typically had a holier than thou attitude in being regarded as the best out of the armed forces. But right now, the only thing they were being better at were being overly sensitive cry babies who could not control their own emotions. Was it too much testosterone or too many bottled up feelings? Whatever the case, it brought about the thought of when Lt. O'neil would be snapping.
Hmm.. Although the above had a tinge of humour, Jouten couldn't help but ponder if there was something more to it behind the scenes. The CAG's obvious emotions towards 123 only made the morbid pilot wonder more about the situation, but it all was quickly swept away as none of it was important to the mission. His mind idly wandered about the goings on of the room until the CAG made his way back in..and with a new pilot.
After the introductions were made, Jouten offered a polite bow of his head to Lt. Morrison. He sure works fast..and how convenient. He even got another female to take her place. Jouten slowly gave her a general once over, making notes about her obvious confusion to the situation and pondering idly if she was picked for skill or picked for the sheer fact she was available and brought into 'the cursed squadron' on a whim.
When questions began to fly again and the mission objectives as a whole were listed, Jouten thought of some of his own in regards to the mission. With 123 gone, he was not the only Archer with Zentraedi blood in the unit. This could prove to either be a good or bad thing. After the CAG responded to Machinko with the mission objectives, Jouten spoke up. "Sir..? Should we be aware of any of Seed's native wildlife that may be a threat to those on the ground? Also as I believe I am the most qualified for the job..I will be happy to find a little puppet and do all the interrogating...personally." The tone of his voice gave a hint of pleasure were he to do so. Jouten did have that degree in psychology after all and getting into someone else's mind and getting what he wanted out of them was fun.
Post-Briefing
Jouten eyed the new TO and couldn't help but shrug at it. It seemed Zed had removed him from the Special Ops Flight and threw him as Wing Lead for the Tactical Flight. In the larger scheme of things, it was a promotion of sorts, as he was now in charge of leading another, rather than being on someone else's wing. He did not mind being on Dom's flight as he was the only person other than Malin that seemed to give him a chance or welcome him to the unit. But it did seem strange to Jouten he would be leading around a 1st Lt..and a 2nd Lt would be in charge of third flight.
When Malin interjected the young CO, Jouten couldn't help but mentally agree on some of his points, disagree on some and just not care either way on others. Although one thing that annoyed the zentraedi was the fact not one, but both officers referred to him by first name and on duty no less. Not by his rank or surname. His first name. Given his lineage, Jouten felt disrespected by the fact they had both done so. Getting up from his seat, he decided not to take part in the squabbling over the new TO and headed for the door, making a few mental notes on how Dom was acting at the moment as well as the others in the room.
"That is Lt. Douji to the both of you." He said as he passed Malin and Zed "and if you two change the TO again, just send it to my PDA and I will take note of it. Now I have some packing to be done..so if you'll excuse me.." Whether or not someone tried to stop Jouten to have words with him did not matter. He continued walking and went on to his room to begin packing his belongings and everything he felt was needed for the mission. |

Briefing
1st Lt. 132 stormed out of the room on the wings of Henry's silent attempt at telepathy. Things became a bit uncomfortable in briefing room 007, until the CAG stormed back into the room with a fresh face, a Lt. Morrison.
Shit. That was fast.
The CAG asked if there were anymore questions just as subconcious arithmatic launched one into Henry's frontal lobe. The others voiced their concerns (some of them unfounded in Henry's opinion, and far too fishing based), and Henry waited for them and listened with interest to the answers. When able to get a word in edgewise, he asks:
"Sirs," Henry nodds first to 1st Lt. Cassel and then to CAG Daniels," if we have the opportunity, are we cleared to steal one of these unidentified VFs? We've got an extra pilot, and hopefully the dumb SOB will be able to fly in a couple of days. If our on scene intel is good enough, we just might be able to pull it off. Or at least get really good pictures if all else fails, sirs, what do you think?"
Post briefing
Then, Henry waits as Zed quickly and decisively answers the squad's questions. Malin Alexander goes off on Zed, and while Zed answers him calmly, ruffling Henry's head in a familiar brotherly motion, he cannot help but think:
More action, Alexander. Far, far, fewer words. While you were yakking, I was able to finish off both you and your wingman, with two single shots.
Lt. Douji was becoming visible disturbed at the use of his familiar name.
"That is Lt. Douji to the both of you, and if you two change the TO again, just send it to my PDA and I will take note of it. Now I have some packing to be done..so if you'll excuse me.."
Great. Another stick-up-the-ass marionette.
A rebuttal formed itself on Henry's lips as fast as the days when he would get beaten at school, until he learned to fight back.
"Well, UN Spacy pilot 2nd Lieutenant Douji, Welcome to the Goddamned Archers. Be good to us, and we'll be good to you. You can call me Henry."
Putting the events of the briefing room behind him, Henry carefully added two changes of garage-style work suits to his pack, and a book on carburators for light prop planes.
Can't help to have something to read in fold. I'll probably have to turn my radio off to escape the inane chatter...
