BACKGROUND
Directly descended from the original VF-1 Valkyrie variable fighter. The VF-11 is equipped with a canard forward wing, however while this canard wing enhances maneuverability in atmosphere, it also limits the maximum speed due to air resistance. This feature was cause for heated debate during development with Captain Milia Jenius of the Eagle Nest Aerial Tactics Center as one advocate of the canard wing. Two VFX-11 prototypes were produced -- the first prototype produced without a canard wing and the second equipped with one. Captain Jenius and the VFX-11 No. 2 machine participated in a rescue operation of a UN chief advisor, and with data collected on the VFX-11 No. 2 used in this rescue operation, a decision was made to implement the canard wing.
Replaced the VF-5000 as the main variable fighter in the UN Spacy after 2030. The VF-11 was also deployed on long-distance immigration ships, colonized planets, and deep outer space forces in conjunction with the VF-14 (the main fighter on colony, survey and other fleets at it's peak) and the VA-14 (the main attack craft on Zentraedi colony planets and fleets at it's peak.) The VF-11 was scheduled to be replaced by the VF-19 Excalibur in the late 2040s. However, this process is taking longer than the UN Armed Forces originally expected. As such, the VF-11 Thunderbolt has remained the standard tactical variable fighter for the UN Spacy forces as of the late 2040. The increased hostilities from Rogue Zentraedi and terrorist Anti-UN forces have increased the rate of replacement. Due to the large numbers of Thunderbolts stationed all across the galaxy it will probably be several years yet before the VF-19 can be produced in sufficient numbers to retire the VF-11 from service.
The design has started to become outdated. However, over the years the VF-11 has undergone a few upgrades to improve its engines, sensors, communications and avionics suite.
RPG STATS
Vehicle Type: VF-11 Thunderbolt
Class: Tactical Variable Fighter
Manufacturer: Shinsei Industry
Crew: One pilot wearing Tactical Life Support System with upper and lower g-suits and pressure breathing in a Marty & Beck Mk-11 g-endurance zero/zero ejection seat. Reinforced pressurized canopy (ejectable as an emergency escape pod) with retractable two-piece cover in Battroid mode; side-stick controller. VF-11D and VF-11D Custom has two seats with retractable four-piece canopy cover in Battroid mode (and a secondary transparent spherical canopy for the rear seat of the VF-11D Custom).
Variants:
- VF-X-11: Prototype version. Two produced, one equipped with fold booster.
- VF-11A: First manufactured version (produced in small numbers). Short barrel on anti-aircraft laser gun and two windows on main sensor mounted on head turret. Becoming rare – usually only found in CDF and Anti-UN forces by the late 2040s.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:
1. ANTI-AIRCRAFT PULSE LASER:
The VF-11 mounts a single pulse laser for use in air combat skirmishes and for defensive purposes. The laser is mounted on the head of the mecha in battroid mode, with a 360º horizontal and a 90º vertical arc of fire. It is located in the central dorsal section of the main body pointed rearward in fighter and gerwalk modes. The laser can only fire to the rear of the fighter with a 90º vertical arc of fire in these modes; it cannot be turned to fire along another arc.
- Note 1: the laser is unavailable when a NP-BP-E7 Recon Booster Unit or Solid-Fuel Rocket Booster. is mounted dorsally.
- Note 2: the VF-11a has a shorter barrel then later variants.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-aircraft
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-missile/defensive
- RANGE: 1200 m (VF-11a only: 800 m)
- DAMAGE: 1D4x10 M.D.
- RATE OF FIRE: Single shots only.
- PAYLOAD: Effectively Unlimited.
2. MULTIPURPOSE GUN POD W/ANTI-ARMOR BAYONET:
A gun pod, similar to the GU-11 used by the VF-1 Valkyrie, is the primary weapon of the VF-11. The new gun pod also features a bayonet mounted on the front of the weapon, for use in close combat with mechanized opponents.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
- SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-mecha
- RANGE: 1200 m
- DAMAGE: 1D8 per round. 10 round burst, single target – 1D8x10 MD. 25 round burst, single target – 2d8x10 MD. Note: for bursts using greater than 25 rounds, increase the damage by a scale of 1D8x10 per 10 rounds, or refer to modern weapon rules for machineguns.
- The gun pod can be used for sprays. 10 round spray – 1D8 MD, affects 1D4 targets. 25 round spray – 1D8 MD, affects 2D4 targets with a 50% chance of hitting bystanders. Longer duration sprays (up to limits of the magazine) – 2D8 MD, affects 4D4 targets with a 70% chance of hitting bystanders.
- BAYONET does 3D4x10 M.D. per strike.
- RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the number of combined attacks of the pilot. Note that the gun pod is not limited to firing only 10, 25, or 400 rounds. Any variation can be fired, though it is recommended to stick to multiples of 10 for ease of damage resolution.
- PAYLOAD: 400 rounds per clip. Additional ammo clips can be inserted, but exchanging clips requires 2 melee actions. Two spare clips are stored behind the anti-projectile shield.
3.LEG INTERNAL CUSTOMIZABLE PALLET(s):
The VF-1a & b only has chaff/flare dispensers. The VF-11c, as part of its upgrade, some of the VF-11d and all VF-11d Kai have all choices. ONLY ONE PALLET TYPE PER LEG PER MISSION.
3.I CHAFF/FLARE DISPENSERS
Available in all modes. When used, they fire a burst of chaff and/or flare to counter any incoming missiles. The burst of chaff and/or flares give a bonus of +3 to Dodge against the missiles.
- PAYLOAD: 10 bursts of chaff/flares.
3.II Stonewell/Roice B-7 Standard Internal Pallet
Each leg of the VF-11c can contain an enclosed Stonewell/Roice B-7 Standard Internal Pallet, which can be customized for different mission objectives and carry a variety of different missile types. When activated the internal pallets open and slightly extends from the sides of the legs, allowing all of their payload (usually missiles) to be activated at once, if necessary. The payloads can be activated in any mode. The B-7 standard internal pallet can be equipped to hold up to 9 Bifors BMM-24 all-environment high-maneuverability micro-missiles, or 9 bomblets, each OR additional sensors (avionics) or cargo. In order to carry different types of munitions and/pr loads, the launchers must be exchanged at a UN Spacy base prior to loading.
- SRM/BMM-24 MISSILES:
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
- RANGE: 8 km.
- DAMAGE: 1D8x10 MD
- RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 1-9 missiles per launcher, per round. One volley counts as one attack. If necessary, all 18 missiles can be fired in a single round by expending two attacks.
- BONUSES: The BMM-24 micro-missiles have a +6 to strike and +5 to dodge, and get 3 attacks per round until they hit or are destroyed.
- PAYLOAD: 9 missiles per launcher, 18 total.
3.III B-11A Specialized Reaction Weapon Internal Pallet
The VF-11c can be loaded with two B-11A Internal Weapons Pallets that hold one RMS-1 Reaction Weapon, each.
- RMS-1 REACTION CRUISE MISSILES: The missiles are AI-guided, thus they receive a bonus of +5 to strike, +4 to dodge and have two attacks per melee until it hits. The missiles will always strike the center (or main body) of their target.
- PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-Spacecraft
- RANGE: 804 km
- MISSILE SPEED: Mach 1 (1072 Kmph at sea level.)
- MDC OF MISSILE: 25
- DAMAGE: 4D8x1,000 MD at ground zero. Reduce damage by a factor of 10 for every 750m the object is away from ground zero. (E.g.: 4D8x100 M.D. at 750 m distant, 4D8x10 M.D. at 1,400 m distant, etc.)
- RATE OF FIRE: 1 per B-11A Internal Weapons Pallets. The two launchers can be fire linked.
- PAYLOAD: 1 per B-11A Internal Weapons Pallets for a maximum of 2.
4.WING HARD POINTS:
Two fixed hard points are mounted on each wing of the VF-11, for a total of 4 hardpoints on the fighter. These hardpoints can be used to hold a variety of different ordinance types, including long, medium, short range missiles, medium-range high-maneuverability (MRHM) missiles (after 2040), UUM-7 Micro-missile pods, RMS-1 reaction missiles and even MK-82 LDGB conventional bombs. Usually only long range or MRHM missiles are issued by the VF-11.
5. HAND TO HAND COMBAT:
If necessary, the pilot of the Thunderbolt can engage in melee combat rather than use a weapon. The Thunderbolt is extremely agile and can execute most typical hand to hand combat moves, such as punches, jump kicks, leap attacks, rolling with impacts, etc.
DAMAGE:
- Restrained Punch: 1D4 M.D.
- Full Strength Punch: 4D6 M.D.
- "Booster" Punch: 1D4x10 M.D. (counts as two attacks)
- Tear or Pry with Hands: 1D6 M.D. + additional ripping and frame damages.
- Kick: 4D6 M.D.
- Leap Kick: 2D6x10 M.D.
- Body Flip/Throw: 2D6 M.D.
- Body Block/Tackle: 1D6 M.D.
- Stomp: 1D6x10 M.D. (only effective against small objects) Note that for some objects, they will be instantly destroyed.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE VF-11 THUNDERBOLT:
- ANTI-PROJECTILE SHIELD: A new addition to modern VFs, the VF-11 is equipped with an external shield that is mounted on the central rear dorsal section of the mecha in fighter mode, and on the left arm in soldier and gerwalk modes. On a successful parry in soldier or gerwalk mode, the shield can be used to block missiles or projectiles, thus protecting the main body from harm. Although constructed of super-strong materials, the shield can NOT regenerate and must be ejected once its MDC is depleted.
- AUTO-PILOT: All VF-11c (and some VF-11d) have enhanced navigational equipment – more free time for the pilot in the cockpit!
- COMBAT COMPUTER W/HUD DISPLAYS: VF-11a, b & d are Era ii. The VF-11c and some VF-11d are era iii.
