The following is by no-means meant to be all encompassing. Note that the following should not be taken as canon. The following is an extrapolation and speculation from canon materials.

Zentraedi Esbeliben Refueling Tanker

Information largely gathered from Zentraedi Tanker and modified for the MRC.

BACKGROUND

The Esbeliben Refueling tanker Zentraedi mechanized forces stationed on the capital ships and space stations with a means of increasing their effective range with several orders of magnitude, by refueling them with new reaction mass after accelerating or after combat. In order to do this, the Refueling Tanker has four large tanks, which could hold a maximum of 1492 tons of reaction mass, and transfer this to Zentraedi Battlecraft four at a time.
The tanker was designed for its task, with four large reaction mass tanks on the flanks, a cockpit in the middle and the engines and other systems forming the hull between tanks and cockpit. Four coupling locations were installed, two on the ventral and two on the dorsal, just inside of each tank. The receiving Zentraedi mecha would position itself near the tanker over the coupling point, after which the actual probe would telescope on a movable arm from the tanker, and automatically connect in the port on the mecha. Transferring fuel was then accomplished in less than a minute for each mecha.
The Zentraedi usually deploy the Tanker at about the 2/3 to ¾ distance point between a Zentraedi capital ship and the combat target during space operations. For atmospheric use, the Tanker is deployed at the ½ to 2/3 distance point. Refueling Tankers are usually escorted by at least one Scout Regult and a platoon of Regult battlepods for every 3 or more Refueling Tankers. For every 6 or more Tankers present, there will be a flight of Gnerl fighter-pods on routine patrol around their area.
Standard UNS tactics when dealing with the Refueling tanker are to locate and disable or destroy them either before or after they have refueled the Zentraedi Attack Craft on their way to their target. If the Tankers are destroyed before refueling the attack craft before a battle, the Zentraedi tend to opt towards a withdrawal of the affected war-craft, as they are potentially unsuitable for combat. If the Tankers are destroyed after refueling the attack craft, then the UNS will alert its forces and they will attempt to move out of the effective range of the attack craft. Effectively stranding them in space. The UNS forces will then move to attack the capital ship or base directly or retreat from the area. Note: this tactic only works for the UNS when the Zentraedi are operating at extreme distances from their capital ships – as any combat occurring close to a Zentraedi capital ship negates the need for mid-flight refueling.
The Refueling Tanker was not adopted by the UNS, however Anti-UN forces have modified the refueling arms to work on both captured VFs and Zentraedi mecha in an effort to expand their forces effective range.

RPG STATS

Vehicle Type: Esbeliben Refueling Tanker - standard Tactical Refueling Tanker of all of the the Zentraedi Forces.
Class: Zentraedi Reactant Transportation and Distribution Vehicle.
Manufacturer: Esbeliben Factory Satellite.
Crew: One pilot and one refueling boom operator wearing Light Zentraedi Armour.

MDC BY LOCATION:

(1) Sensor Eye 25
(2) Reactant Storage Pods (4) 250 each
(3) Engine thrusters (4) 100 each
(4) Main Body 300
Refueling Arms 25

NOTES:

  1. Destroying the Sensor Eye will knock out the mecha's major sensor systems, including all of the optics systems (infrared, nightvision, thermal). Radar and communications will be unaffected.
  2. Depleting the MDC of one or more of the Reactant Storage Pods will cause a reactant fuel leak. There is an immediate 50% chance that the reactant will explode. Thereafter, if any energy based weapon or engine thrust (including the thrust of the Refueling Tanker itself) contacts the reactant, there is a 90% chance of an explosion. A reactant explosion will cause 1D6x100 MD to 100 m, 1D6X10 MD to 200 and 1D6 MD to 300 m.
  3. Each thruster destroyed will reduce the flight speed of the Refueling Tanker by 25%. Destroying all four thrusters will render the mecha immobile.
  4. Depleting the MDC of the Main Body will destroy the Mecha, probably killing the crew as well.

STATISTICAL DATA:

HEIGHT: 30.3 m
WIDTH: 120 m
LENGTH: 74.6 m
WEIGHT: 1632 tonnes (emtpy)
POWER PLANT: 2.6 GGV class Esbeliben Thermonuclear Reactor
SPEEDS:
FLYING IN SPACE: 1248 mph (2000 Kmph)

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

NONE Note that the Refueling Tanker could ram an opponent. However, this manuever is fairly extremely and suicidal as the reactant holding tanks are fairly fragile and would rupture in a fireball. Thereafter, the Refueling Tanker would be proverbially ‘sitting in a pool of gas with a lit match.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE REFULING TANKER:

  1. COMBAT COMPUTER: The Refueling Tanker is equipped with a combat computer that can store and analyze data during combat with hostile forces. The Refueling Tanker’s view screen allows the computer to display only limited amounts of data to the pilot, such as highlighting enemies and missile attacks with overlaid graphics. The combat computer has a database of over 10,000 images stored in memory to assist the pilot in visually identifying opponents.
  2. HEAT AND RADIATION SHIELDS: Special shielding prevents the penetration of life threatening heat and radiation. A radiation detection and alarm system are linked with the shields and will sound an alarm if there is a rupture in the shields and what the levels of radiation are.
  3. OPTICS: NIGHTVISION: Range: 2000 feet (610 m). A passive light image intensifier that emits no light of its own, but relies on ambient light which is electronically amplified to produce a visible picture – mostly used for visually acquiring units to be refueled.
  4. OPTICS: THERMAL IMAGER: Range: 2000 feet (610 m). A passive optical heat sensor that detects infrared radiation projected by warm objects and converts that data into a false-color visible image. The system enables the pilot to see in the dark, in shadows, and through smoke, and also adds a +10% bonus to pilots using a tracking skill – mostly used for visually acquiring units to be refueled.
  5. SHORT-RANGE DETECTOR: 1000 m range. Akin to a collision alarm radar. The Short-Range Detector is quite limited and useful only for informing only the most basic and rudimentary information to the pilot of the Refueling Tanker. For example, if a group of opponents are approaching, the radar will provide only the distance, speed and approximate vector, however it will not indicate how many opponents are present.
  6. RADIO/VIDEO COMMUNICATION: short range, directional communications system. Range: 30 miles (48 km) or can be boosted indefinitely via relay – often times this is from Regult to Regult, as the Regult have a superior battlenet used for transmitting information both to and from the battlefield.
  7. LONG DURATION STORES: water and dehydrated and concentrated food, for a 2 day period (can be stretched into a five day supply for) for the crew.

COMBAT BONUSES REFUELING POD TRAINING:

Training for all Zentraedi personnel.

  • 1 move action per melee (plus those of the pilot).
  • Add one additional action at levels three, nine, and fifteen.
  • Strike not possible (aside from ramming.)
  • Parry not possible.
  • +1 to dodge in space, +0 to dodge in an atmosphere.
  • +1 to roll with a punch or fall with an impact, reducing damage by half.
  • Critical strike same as pilot's hand-to-hand.
  • Ram - 1D6x10 M.D. plus a 90% chance of knocking an opponent down, causing him to loose initiative and one attack that melee round. There is also a 75% chance of rupturing the reactant fuel casing (see MDC section for potential explosion.)
