UNSM Tactical (Combat) Shuttle

The following is by no-means meant to be all encompassing. The following are MRC specific MODIFICATIONS to stats that are preexisting. Note that the following should not be taken as canon. The following is an extrapolation and speculation from canon materials.

BACKGROUND In the mid-2020s, the UN Marines came, after numerous tragedies, to the conclusion that the SC-27 Star Goose simply wasn’t the right vehicle for combat deployments to hot landing zones. Development started right away. Due to developments in OverTechnology at the time, the UN Marines opted away from a winged vehicle and concentrated on an armoured and armed transport vehicle capable of deploying troops and light vehicles and able to stay on scene to add aerial support to the ground forces. The result was a highly powered, moderately aerodynamic box with weapon stations that are retracted and folded into the vehicle to minimize its profile during transatmospheric flight.

Internally there is a small kitchenette and W/C. There are no beds. In case of ferrying wounded, there are emergency stretchers and mounting racks on the walls. However, the military seats must be folded out of the way and it becomes standing room only for the remaining passengers. The belly of the Tactical Shuttle contains a retractable ramp that contains two UNS HUMVEE type vehicles; deployable to enhance the abilities of the combat troops that the shuttle carries to an operation. The Tactical Shuttle was designed with long range, interplanetary travel in design. An upgrade occurred in the Tactical Shuttle occurred in the mid- to late 2040s with the inclusion of a micronized fold booster. The fold engine greatly expanded the vehicles usefulness and operational theater.

The UN Marines, having adopting the vehicle as their standard shuttle, have successfully deployed and used the Tactical Shuttle in numerous operations throughout known space. From the mid-2030s the UN Army also used the tactical shuttle in their operations.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

1. CHIN MOUNTED 30MM AUTO CANNON (1)

For close in work the Combat Shuttle sports a single barreled 30MM Vulcan Gun similar to the gunpods used by Variable Fighters. It is mounted under the chin and is the close in support weapon, used primarily for defending the Combat Shuttle against mecha. The auto cannon is mechanically preset to fire in burst of either 10 or 25 rounds, or until the pilot releases the trigger or the magazine is emptied.

  • PRIMARY PURPOSE:
  • SECONDARY PURPOSE:
  • RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
  • DAMAGE: 1D6 per round. 10 round burst, single target – 1D6X10 MD. 25 round burst, single target – 2D6X10 MD. Note, for bursts using greater then 25 rounds, increase the damage by a scale of 1D6X10 per 10 rounds OR refer to the modern weapons rules for machineguns.
The auto cannon can be used for sprays: 10 round spray – 1D6 MD, affects 1d4 targets. 25 round burst spray – 1D6 MD, affects 2d4 targets with a 50% chance of hitting bystanders. Longer duration sprays (up to limits of the magazine): 2D4 MD, affects 4d4 targets. Chance of hitting bystanders is 70%.
  • RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the pilot's combined number of attacks. Note that firing of the auto cannon isn't limited to only 10, 25 or 1000 rounds. Any variation can be fired (it is recommended to stick to multiples of 10 for ease of damage resolution.)
  • PAYLOAD: 1000 rounds internally belt-fed. (Equals 100 short bursts, 50 long bursts, or 25 full melee bursts.

2. DUAL AA LASER CANNONS (2)

Two laser cannon turrets are mounted on the top and bottom of the hull. They are mainly used to defend against missiles. Secondary purpose is anti-mecha.

  • RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
  • DAMAGE: Does 1D4x10 M.D. per cannon. 2D4x10 M.D. for both fired at the same target.
  • RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the number of combined attacks of the pilot.
  • PAYLOAD: Unlimited, however if fired continuously, the weapon will overheat and subsequently needs a cool down period.

3. AA LONG-RANGE MISSILES

These missiles are the smart variety.

  • RANGE: 650 to 2000 Km
  • DAMAGE: 2D6X10+10 to 1D6x1000, pending missile used.
  • RATE OF FIRE: volleys of 2 or 4, per launcher.
  • PAYLOAD: 6 per launcher for a total of 12.

4. AIR TO GROUND MM MISSILES

The prime offensive missile employed by the Combat Shuttle; versatile and deadly. Can be switched between Radar, Laser or Heat guided types.

  • RANGE: 30 to 130 Km
  • DAMAGE: 1D8x10 to 5D8x10, pending missile used.
  • RATE OF FIRE: volleys of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10, per launcher.
  • PAYLOAD: 20 per launcher for a total of 40.

5. AA SRM

Secondary offensive missile employed by the Combat Shuttle. Primarily used to shoot down incoming missiles and overwhelm ground targets. Can be switched between Radar, Laser or Heat guided types.

  • RANGE: 1.6 to 8 Km
  • DAMAGE: 1D6x10 to 2D8x10+15, pending missile used.
  • RATE OF FIRE: volleys of 2, 4 or 6, per launcher.
  • PAYLOAD: 6 per launcher for a total of 12

6. CHAFF/FLARE DISPENSERS

When used, they fire off a burst of chaff and/or flare to counter any incoming missiles. The burst of chaff and/or flares give a bonus of +3 to Dodge against the missiles.

  • Carries a total of 25 bursts of chaff/flares.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE UNSMC TACTICAL SHUTTLE:

  • AUTO-PILOT: The Tactical Shuttle is equipped with a computerized auto-pilot, allowing the pilots to relax or even sleep during long voyages. The auto-pilot can be programmed with a single destination or a complex flight plan involving multiple speeds, vectors, and destinations. The onboard computer will alert the pilot when the shuttle is nearing its destination, and can also be set to automatically signal when sensors detect objects near the vehicle. The auto-pilot was designed with long journeys in mind.
  • COMBAT COMPUTER: The Tactical Shuttle is equipped with a combat computer that can store and analyze data. Data collected by the combat computer can be displayed on the HUD of the cockpit of the vehicle, which allows the system to display large amounts of data to the pilot and even highlight enemies and missile attacks with overlaid graphics. The combat computer tracks and identifies specific enemy targets, and has a database of over 10,000 images stored in memory. The computer can identify and track up to 250 targets simultaneously.
  • EJECTOR SEATS: The reinforced cockpit of the Tactical Shuttle contains armoured ejector seats that can be ejected when the shuttle is nearing destruction. The ejector seats do not contain thrusters, but do contain powerful locator beacons. The ejector seats are also equipped with parachutes and ballutes in case of ejection in or near an atmosphere. The combat computer is programmed to automatically eject the crew if the shuttle is destroyed (main body MDC reduced to 0), but this can be overridden if the pilot is feeling suicidal for some reason.
  • HEAT AND RADIATION SHIELDS: Special shielding prevents the penetration of life threatening heat and radiation. A radiation detection and alarm system are linked with the shields and will sound an alarm if there is a is a breach in the shields and what the levels of radiation are.
  • HOMING SIGNAL: The ejector seats of the Tactical Shuttle are equipped with a homing device that enables rescue teams to locate a disabled craft or ejected life pod. The range of the signal is 400 miles (640 km). Most UN Spacy ships and variable fighters can locate and track homing signals, and the onboard computers will automatically notify their pilots if such a signal is detected.
  • RADAR: 642 km range.
  • RADIO/VIDEO COMMUNICATION: Long range, directional communications system with satellite relay capabilities. Range: 960 km in an atmosphere, or 1920 Km in space, or can be boosted indefinitely via satellite relay.
  • STANDARD SURVIVAL KITS: All UNS vehicles come equipped with portable survival kits. Inside the small reinforced box is a medium-sized flashlight, two hand flares, one rocket flare, a universal direction finder, infrared distancing binoculars, a small mirror, a pocket knife, dehydrated and concentrated food (can be stretched into a five day supply for one person) and basic first aid items (aspirin, bandages, disinfectants, etc..)
  • TACTICAL LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM: The Tactical Shuttle cockpit and passenger compartment is pressurized, and also provides additional air feeds to the crew's flight suit that provides him with pressurized breathing. The UN Spacy flight suit also contains an upper and lower g-suit that promotes blood circulation even during high-g turns, thus decreasing the possibility of pilot's blacking out in combat.
  • STANDARD EQUIPMENT: the UNSMC Tactical Shuttle has emergency spacesuits (with helmet) for all passengers and crew members and the following additional supplies.
  • 30 x M21 Assault Rifle
  • 90 x ammunition clips for the M21
  • XX x Grenades (one box)
  • 5 x Shoulder Mounted Rocket Launchers
  • 15 x Rockets for the SMRL
  • 100 x Emergency Flares (one box)
  • 5 x Emergency long range (50 km) radio
  • 7 days rations and water for full crew compliment
  • Tents, cots and blankets for 40 people.
  • Additional items also found in the UNSM standard field kit
  • Auxiliary vehicles carried in the internal landing bay of the Combat Shuttle:
  • 2 x UNS style HUMVEE Stats are one of the following:
  • Jeep (4-Wheel Drive): A.R.: 6 S.D.C.: 300 Speed: 120 mph (193 kph) Range: 400 miles (644 kph)
